Plasmatreat Schweiz AG, a subsidiary of the Plasmatreat GmbH, an international leader for manufacturing atmospheric-pressure plasma systems, will exhibit at this year’s EPHJ. On its booth J58 in hall 1, Plasmatreat will show surface activation, cleaning and coating with plasma technology. The local team will give insights in plasma technology theoretically and demonstrate practically how it works, especially for the watchmaking, microtechnology and medical industry.
“Plasma pretreatment is the key technology for ultra-fine cleaning, surface activation and plasma coating of almost all materials. It is based on a simple physical principle: the addition of energy causes aggregate states to change. If energy is added to a gas, it is ionized and enters the high-energy plasma state as the fourth state of matter”, explains Klaus Kresser, General Manager at Plasmatreat Switzerland.
“When plasma with its high energy level comes into contact with materials, the surface properties change, e.g. from hydrophobic to hydrophilic. In this way, our Openair-Plasma can be used to specifically change the surface of substrates in order to improve adhesion in industrial applications. In addition to the activation of surfaces, with our PT-Bond technology we can apply a nanocoating to the surface to create special functionalities. For example, with a PT-Bond coating it is now possible to join different materials together that were originally incompatible.”
At EPHJ trade show the company will show what kind of advantages the technology has and why it is helpful for such high-precision industries like watchmaking or medical device manufacturing. Plasma technology requires are virtually no chemicals, reduces effort, cycle times and costs, and makes long-lasting adhesive bonds possible. Pretreatment with Openair-Plasma from Plasmatreat increases the adhesion and wettability of surfaces, thus enabling the use of more cost-effective material alternatives and new types of material composites while maintaining the quality of the end products.
In Geneva, Plasmatreat will show that the plasma process is dry, non-contact, selective in location, and fast. Visitors will see live how plastic cards will be pretreated with plasma technology. To make thus plasma pretreatment “visible” the local team will use a special measuring method and show that the surface energy of the substrate has changed.
Plasmatreat is an international leader
Plasmatreat Schweiz AG is a subsidiary of Plasmatreat GmbH. The Plasmatreat Group is an international leader in the development and manufacture of atmospheric plasma systems for the pretreatment of substrate surfaces.
Whether plastic, metal, glass or paper – the industrial use of plasma technology modifies the properties of the surface in favor of the process requirements.
Openair-Plasma® technology is used in automated and continuous manufacturing processes in almost every industrial sector. Examples include the automotive, electronics, transportation, packaging, consumer goods and textile industry, but the technology, cost and environmental advantages of the plasma technology are used in medical technology and in the renewable energy sector as well.
The Plasmatreat Group has technology centers in Germany, USA, Canada, China, and Japan. With its worldwide sales and service network, the company is represented in more than 30 countries by subsidiaries and sales partners.
