Thyssenkrupp Materials Schweiz AG and Stadler Stahlguss AG present a ground-breaking world premiere: In Biel (CH), stainless steel PuReSteel® is melted for the first time, CO2 neutral and 100% recycled. With this important step towards sustainability, the two companies are setting a new standard for the watch industry.
Two years ago, thyssenkrupp Materials Schweiz AG introduced the 100% recycled, stainless watch steel PuReSteel®. Despite limited heavy industry, thanks to the cooperation with Stadler Stahlguss AG it is now possible to relocate the melting of this high-quality watch steel completely to Switzerland. The key data of this lighthouse project are ambitious:
- 100% recycled and CO2 reduced
- Swiss steel for Swiss watches
- Raw material sourcing and manufacturing within a radius of 150 kilometres
“We are proud to work with thyssenkrupp and melt their recyclables into a high-quality steel. Our furnaces are powered by hydroelectricity, which enables the production of this CO2 neutral steel. As we manufacture undercarriage components for rail vehicles from Stadler, our own quality standards are very high. Therefore, we think that the watch customers will also be satisfied with our work”, explains Michael Schmitz, CEO, Stadler Stahlguss AG.
